DALLAS, Texas (PRWEB) June 24, 2014 -- Rotary District 5810 has teamed with the Veterans Coalition of North Central Texas (VCNCT) to launch Mentors-In-Arms, a one-on-one mentoring program for North Central Texas veterans and veteran’s spouses. The initiative is sponsored by the Veterans Career Development Program (VCDP).
Developed by several Rotary Club leaders in District 5810 to help veterans with career and entrepreneurial development, VCDP supports a wide range of veteran employment challenges.
“Rotarians are business leaders who know how to create and sustain jobs, so it seemed logical for us to develop a program that would assist our veterans with business and career development,” said Jeff Bosque, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Dallas and Chair of the VCDP Advisory Board. “Employment can mean more than just getting a job. More and more veterans are entrepreneurs that either own a business already or want to start one. So we felt it was important to develop a program that covers all areas of employment, whether it’s being an employee or entrepreneur, to ensure our veterans are able to earn an income and support their families in a way that fits their individual interests and strengths.”
With so many veterans having trouble transitioning from military to civilian careers, organizers of the Mentors-In-Arms program felt that a hands-on mentorship program would help ensure long-term success.
Nekima Booker, founder of Veterans Coalition of North Texas and Vice-Chair of the VCDP Advisory Board said, “The longer you’re able to mentor a person, the better chance of success, so we didn’t want this program to be a quick ‘crash-course’ in how to get a job or start a business. We’re committed to helping veterans gain the skills they need to be successful.”
VCDP is hosting its kick-off event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on June 26, 2014 at the SMU Cox School of Business, Maguire Building, 6212 Bishop Blvd. in Dallas. Participants can learn more about Mentors-In-Arms at the event, and meet other potential mentors and mentees. VCDP will also be accepting applications for its next mentoring sessions starting in July 2014.
