Local Singer from “The Voice” Season 3 Raises Awareness for Rare Brain Condition
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- Michaela Paige, a singer and songwriter best known for her R&B and pop music style, and favorite local radio show host, will perform at the annual South Florida Hydrocephalus Association WALK on Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Deerfield Beach. The event will raise funds to support critical research initiatives and current education and outreach programs of the Hydrocephalus Association, the nation’s largest patient-advocacy organization dedicated to serving the estimated 1 million Americans living with hydrocephalus.
Starting at the young age of 8, Michaela has been performing all over South Florida, from benefit concerts to paid performances. While performing Jazz, Blues, and R&B throughout local South Florida businesses and open-mike nights at coffeehouses, she was also writing her own music with the goal and intent of using her gift to help and inspire others. In 2012, Michaela participated in NBC’s hit reality TV show, “The Voice”, where she not only earned a spot in the Top 12, but graced the likes of USA Today, Rolling Stone, Access Hollywood, and the iTunes Top 100 Chart, to name a few. Michaela is also the host of three radio shows on W4CY, currently ranked number one in south Florida and thirteenth in the world for internet radio.

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain. There is no cure and the only treatment option requires brain surgery. About two in every 1,000 babies are born with hydrocephalus. It can also develop as the result of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or as a part of the aging process in the senior population, where it is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.
The Hydrocephalus Association’s 8th annual South Florida Hydrocephalus Association WALK will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. Check in will open at 8:45 am; the WALK begins at 10:00 am. An estimated 600 participants are expected to walk in the event. Mike Sipe from Mike Sipe Entertainment will be Master of Ceremonies, with other special guests such as the new 97-3 THE COAST- new home of the KVJ Show, Boca Raton Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps, singer Pamela Martyna, Florida Panthers Street Team, Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, Broward Sheriff’s Office, face painters and even the Ft Lauderdale Striker’s mascot- Hot Shot, will be there to cheer on the walkers.
This is a family-friendly 2 mile WALK around beautiful Quiet Waters Park. Lunch is being supplied by Miller’s Ale House, Chili’s and Bru’s Room – Pompano Beach and Oceans 234.
