Long Island Based Non Profit CANA Foundation Set to Host Exclusive Movie Screening of “Indian Horse” Film at LIU Post Theatre
Long Island, New York (PRWEB) April 06, 2018 -- CANA Foundation, a Long Island-based non profit organization advocating for America’s wild horses, habitats and humanity is hosting an exclusive movie screening of the new major motion picture, Indian Horse at LIU Post Theatre on Monday, April 16th, 2018 at 6:00 in the evening, free of charge.
Based on the best selling novel by Richard Wagamese, Indian Horse is a 2017 drama directed by Stephen Campanelli and Executive Produced by Clint Eastwood. Indian Horse follows the life of Canadian First Nations boy, Saul Indian Horse, as he survives residential school and life amongst the racism of the 1970s. A talented hockey player, Saul must find his own path as he battles stereotypes and alcoholism.
Former Congressman and Chairman of the Global Institute at LIU, Steve Israel, will host a question and answer session with CANA Foundation Ambassador and "Indian Horse" actor Will Strongheart, producer of the Film Paula Devonshire, as well as a UN representative for rights of Indigenous Peoples in New York.
“Indian Horse is an important film that chronicles a disturbing chapter of history and the inspiring perseverance of the indigenous people who stood up in the face of injustice,” said former Congressman Steve Israel, Chairman of the Global Institute at Long Island University and moderator of the screening Q&A Session. “The screening of this film is a profound opportunity to share this history with the student body of Long Island University and create a dialogue between students and the leaders who will be on-hand for the event’s panel discussion.” -Congressman Steve Israel
CANA Foundation is a 501(c) 3 that rescues, rewilds, and rehomes wild horses and has traveled around the country to protect horses in twelve western states. The organization has also worked right at the roots with sovereign tribal communities to rehome horses on native lands, often as part of youth, culture and veterans programs. CANA is sponsoring the Indian Horse Film screening event to raise awareness for America’s Indigenous peoples plight and perseverance; as it aligns with the Foundations humanitarian rewilding initiatives that heal traumas in order to go forward in a more justified, empowered and sustainable way of life.
