Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) January 13, 2014 -- fishbat, a Long Island web design company, responds to an article published by Mashable on January 8, which reports that the San Francisco Chronicle is re-training their employees so they can track stories on social media.
According to the Mashable article titled “Newspaper to Put All Reporters Through Social Media Boot Camp,” managing editor Audrey Cooper is implementing a two-month social media training course for all of its employees in order to keep up with the rest of the digital world.
The article says that the training will take place at an off-site location, and be more of a “digital and social media boot camp.” Cooper wants employees to be able to go through real-time monitoring of clicks from social media and other referral sites (LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Reddit). The article says the paper has been declining since the start of the technological revolution, and they hope to change that with more of a media presence.
Justin Maas, vice president of client relations at Long Island web design company fishbat, believes that more companies who have had a dismal presence in this social media age should follow suit. “The San Francisco Chronicle is historically known as one of the more successful news sources in the Bay Area, but their entrance into the digital world was delayed,” he says. “Now they need to catch up. This training session is a good way for the reporters to learn the ins and outs of social media and for them to track their stories better.”
Maas says all journalists should be able to track the success of their stories. “By learning how to use social media, reporters and journalists will be able to better promote stories and track their progress,” he says. “This is all valuable information that can help newspapers gain readers and develop better content.”
