Los Angeles Eyelid Surgery Center Announces Strategic Education Partnership with USC Keck School of Medicine
(PRWEB) October 21, 2014 -- Having operated in Los Angeles since 1984 and as Eyesthetica since 2002, the doctors of Eyesthetica are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with the Department of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). The center’s team is headlined by the experience of Dr. Steven C. Dresner, who received his MD from the University of Michigan, and his cofounding partner Dr. Michael A. Burnstine who received his MD from Harvard Medical School. It is complemented by Drs Melanie Ho Erb and David B. Samimi.
The partnership with USC includes formal resident training in facial and eyelid surgery. USC officials and staff appreciate the presence of Eyesthetica on campus, believing the doctors’ professional backgrounds and vast experiences facilitate enhanced resident training.
The Keck School of Medicine at USC is one of the most elite medical education centers in the nation. Students who graduate from this school make up the nation’s future physicians and biomedical scientists. The innovative curriculum integrates basic applied clinical sciences with the most recent advances in medical practice and technology.
The Eyesthetica educational program will consist of weekly training sessions, where medical students and residents will be introduced to advanced clinical practices in the field of oculofacial and cosmetic surgery and associated medical theories currently applied in the field. Medical training centers will also be made available to provide access and information on medical developments in the fields of Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Facial Plastic Surgery and clinical practice management.
Dr. Michael A. Burnstine is an experienced ophthalmologist who earned his MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan and also served as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. He received his oculofacial plastic surgery fellowship training at the University of Illinois at Chicago Eye and Ear Infirmary under Dr. Allen Putterman. He is the recipient of the Merrill Reeh pathology award and the Quickert thesis award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His credentials have resulted in numerous memberships, including the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He will provide lectures as a Clinical Professor at the Keck School of Medicine.
Dr. Steven C. Dresner was awarded his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University. He served as a fellow in Neuro-ophthalmology and Orbital Surgery under Dr. John S. Kennerdell at the University of Pittsburgh and as a fellow in Oculofacial Surgery with Francois Codere at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Dresner has had a career of surgical innovation, earning him the Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He will provide lectures on cosmetic eyelid and facial surgery and orbital surgery, covering content from his own published papers and surgery textbook chapters. Dr. Dresner is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and a Clinical Professor at USC.
Dr. Melanie Ho Erb earned her MD and completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of California at Irvine. She completed her 2 year oculofacial plastic surgery fellowship at Eyesthetica and is a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Dr. Erb is the President of the Chinese American Ophthalmological Society and on the board of the Asian American Pacific Association. She has lectured both nationally and internationally and has given scientific lectures in China to promote east-west collaboration and to teach oculoplastics procedures to ophthalmologists around the world. Dr. Erb has a passion for double-eyelid surgery. She will teach oculoplastic surgery techniques at USC as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.
Dr. David B. Samimi completed his training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the number one residency program in the country. He completed his oculofacial plastic surgery training at Eyesthetica and is a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Samimi’s awards include the 2014 ASOPRS Research Award for most outstanding paper of the year and the Bascom Palmer Oculoplastics Award. Dr. Samimi has a special interest in lower eyelid blepharoplasty and he will be contributing to resident education in the USC Department of Ophthalmology as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is the director of the Resident Suturing Workshop and Co-Director of the Facial Botulinum Toxin and Filler workshops.
