Chen has helped over 100 single men and women to walk down the aisle and she has counseled many couples to stay in marriage.
When asked about whether the weaker economy is the reason behind the current worldwide phenomenon of increasing divorces, Chen said, "It may seem that way on the surface: economy goes down and divorces go up. But divorce rates have been going up in the last 10 years. And if you look at previous periods where the economy was poor, for example during the Great Depression, we didn't see widespread divorces just because there were no jobs and no money."
According to a report from the CDC, for every 2-3 couples in the US, one would go through divorce.
"It is the 'miseducation' and the lack of education that are throwing many people off in their marriages. Most people know more about their iPhones than about the subject of marriage," said Chen, "Unfortunately, what we have learned about marriage and relationships -- often as a result from bad experiences -- are often wrong."
Chen explained love is like a glass of water -- there is nothing needed to be added to it and it is just pure. But current definitions of what is considered a "good" relationship dictates conditions such as: having financial stability, social skills, exceptional looks, and must have spent a number of years together first to "make sure he/she is the right one."
"If you wish to drink a glass of water, and someone puts in so much additives to it, do you still want to drink it?" said Chen.
With the fear of getting into a wrong relationship, singles delay marriage and date endlessly to 'find the right match.' According to Chen, most people end up spending 10 years in the dating game with no luck finding a partner. Over 85% of dating ends in breakups.
In an interview recently, Chen was asked if the divorce trends would improve in the next 10-15 years, Chen replied, "Not if most of us are missing the lessons about marriage."
"Keep in mind, it is not about the divorce rate now. It is what we will pass on to our young generation as further 'miseducation.' How could we teach our younger generation about marriage if we have no positive experiences in it?" Chen said.
As a believer that the right education can make a big difference in a person's approach to life issues, Chen has written 22 books on the subject of family, love, relationships and personal success. Some of her books have been adapted by teachers to be used as textbooks to students.
