Los Angeles Periodontist Speaks About an Innovative Gum Recession Treatment Method at USC Symposium
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- At the recent International Periodontal and Implant Symposium at USC, Dr. Alina Krivitsky, DDS was among the panel of internationally renowned periodontal experts who spoke on common clinical beliefs and determined their validity. In front of an audience of more than 300 people, Dr. Krivitsky gave a presentation on RejuvaGum Lift, an alternative to gum grafting that utilizes advanced-platelet rich fibrin and graftless root coverage to provide patients with faster healing and regeneration of areas affected by gum recession.
RejuvaGum Lift eliminates the painful process of taking tissue from the roof of the mouth to graft onto receding gums. Dr. Krivitsky is one of the first US periodontists to be trained in and perform this cutting-edge and exciting treatment.
“When gum recession is caught in its early stages, it can be easily treated,” expressed Dr. Alina Krivitsky, periodontal expert at the CENTER for Advanced Periodontal & Implant Therapy in Los Angeles. “With the RejuvaGum Lift procedure, patients can experience much less pain when they have a graftless root coverage procedure to fix their gum recession.”
Gum recession is when the gums pull away from the teeth, making the teeth appear longer. It not only causes patients to become self-conscious about their smiles, but it can also cause hot and cold sensitivity when eating. Gum recession can occur from having periodontal disease, jawbone loss, poor dental hygiene, insufficient gum tissue, trauma, and from brushing too hard.
“Some patients are afraid to fix their receding gums because of the pain from a gum graft procedure,” explained Dr. Krivitsky. “Using advanced-platelet rich fibrin, RejuvaGum Lift helps take the worst pain away. It reduces healing time, decreases pain and swelling, and improves the overall patient experience. Hopefully this will encourage people who need their gums fixed to have a graftless root coverage procedure.”
During a RejuvaGum Lift procedure, a patient’s own blood is separated into plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The white blood cells and platelets are used to create the platelet rich fibrin which is placed in the surgical site to increase rejuvenation abilities. This also reduces the chance of infection and failed grafting. Advanced-platelet rich fibrin has also been used in sports medicine, heart surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, and dermatology.
“Because it utilizes advanced-platelet rich fibrin, a RejuvaGum Lift is a safe and easy procedure,” said Dr. Krivitsky. “It will greatly improve the function and smile of the gums in each patient.”
Dr. Alexandre-Amir Aalam and Dr. Alina Krivitsky are Board certified Brentwood periodontists specializing in dental implants and gum and tissue diseases.
