Los Angeles Public Library to host Indie Author Day; Event pulls together industry leaders to talk about libraries and the future of self-publishing
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) December 23, 2014 -- Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) will host Indie Author Day, on Saturday, January 17th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its Central Branch, located at 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, 90071.
Speakers Include:
• LAPL's own city librarian, John Szabo, discussing the library and it's role in the future of self-publishing.
• Maggie Marr, self-published author of Hollywood Girls Club (amongst other prominent works) will share her indie publishing success story.
• Angela Bole, executive director of the Independent Book Publishers Association, talking about the publishing process and "indie business.”
• Mitchell Davis, CreateSpace founder (formerly BookSurge) and BiblioBoard Chief Business Officer, will provide a history of indie publishing and moderate an Indie Publishing Boot Camp session
• Ian Singer, Library Journal's Group Publisher, explaining about how authors can work more effectively with their local library
"Los Angeles is a city of writers, ranging in experience from established to aspiring," said City Librarian John F. Szabo. “This event aims to share inspiration and knowledge on the writing and publishing process. Los Angeles Public Library is happy to be a leader in the movement of libraries and authors working together.”
The Los Angeles Public Library is among the first library systems to make the SELF-e digital self-publishing platform available to its patrons free of charge. The innovative program, created by Library Journal in collaboration with BiblioBoard, offers indie authors and aspiring writers the opportunity to upload their ebooks, expand their readership, broaden their fan base and get discovered. Content submitted on the SELF-e platform will be evaluated by Library Journal and, if selected, appear in a curated collection of self-published ebooks showcased at participating libraries nationwide.
"With SELF-e, the library is providing writers an extraordinary resource to help them gain a wider audience for their ebooks,” Szabo said. “We look forward to welcoming L.A.'s diverse writing community to Indie Author Day, where people can learn first-hand about this new resource for our writing community.”
Mitchell Davis, founder and Chief Business Officer of BiblioLabs, is excited for the SELF-e platform to launch at LAPL, one of the largest library systems in the U.S. with over 70 branches throughout the region. The evening will conclude with a cocktail hour celebrating the launch with refreshments, raffles and general revelry. This event is free and open to the public.
