Loudoun’s Freedom High School Lacrosse Teams and Dulles South Community Rally Around 9-year-old Boy Diagnosed with Cancer
South Riding, VA (PRWEB) April 27, 2015 -- Freedom High School’s Lacrosse teams, along with the whole Dulles South Community, have come to the aid and support of one of their own: 9-year-old Matt Stoesser. On Monday, April 27, beginning at 6 p.m. ET, the Freedom High School Lacrosse Teams will come together to raise funds and promote community awareness of Matt’s (and other local families) battle against cancer at their “Sticking It to Cancer” lacrosse games at the high school stadium field.
For the Stoesser family, it all started towards the end of March with what the Stoessers thought was a UTI. Ultrasounds, tests, PET scans, biopsies and numerous exams later, Matt was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft cell tissue tumor that is mainly in his bladder and prostate, but has also minimally spread to Matt’s lymph nodes and lungs. Over the next 54 weeks, he will undergo aggressive treatment through Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.
During “Sticking It to Cancer,” Matt and his eleven year old older brother, Eric, will get special treatment at the varsity game – sitting on the varsity bench, t-shirts and much more. Coach Warren Danzenbaker’s goal is to raise funds for treatment and help lift Matt’s and his family’s spirits.
“We want to let the Stoessers and others in our community know that they are not alone in this fight against cancer,” said Coach Danzenbaker.
Pastor Chris Riedel of Arcola United Methodist Church will attend the games, along with church members, neighbors, classmates, Dulles South Lacrosse teams and friends.
“In the course of just a few short weeks, we have seen God at work throughout our community,” said Pastor Chris Riedel. “The outpouring of generosity and support to the Stoesser family has been a gift and they are truly grateful.”
The event begins at 6 p.m. ET with the Junior Varsity team, continuing until the end of the Varsity game, which begins at 7:15 p.m. ET at Freedom High School, located at 25450 Riding Center Drive, South Riding, VA 20152.
