Louis G. Nappi Construction Labor-Management Scholarship Fund Awards $75,000 to 15 Lower Hudson Valley College Students
Tarrytown, NY (PRWEB) November 09, 2015 -- The Louis G. Nappi Construction Labor-Management Scholarship Fund, a major construction industry-led financial aid program for college studies, has awarded 15 students from the Lower Hudson Valley region each with a $5,000 grant for undergraduate and graduate studies in mathematics, the sciences, engineering and technology for the 2015 fall semester. The scholarship fund, established in 2009, was conceived by Louis G. Nappi, the late Chairman Emeritus of the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc. (CIC).
The Louis G. Nappi Construction Labor-Management Scholarship Fund was created as a pathway for the U.S. to regain the leading technological status it once enjoyed. It was Mr. Nappi’s long-held belief that the hard sciences of mathematics and engineering were keys to re-establishing the prestige the nation once held in infrastructure construction. By providing talented and deserving students with the financial assistance required to pursue higher education and advanced degrees, Mr. Nappi believed the future of the nation’s construction and building industries would regain its worldwide competitiveness and preeminence.
Comprised of representatives from both labor and management, the Louis G. Nappi Scholarship Committee carefully considers and selects candidates who exemplify the high scholastic and personal standards needed to advance our industry’s future.
Candidates for the scholarship must be residents of the seven-county region of the lower Hudson Valley comprised of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Columbia, Ulster, Orange and Rockland Counties, and be related to employees of companies or affiliated unions of the CIC. The participating labor unions include Laborers International Union of N.A. Local 60, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 456.
Marking its seventh year of support to children and relatives of CIC-member companies and affiliated union locals, the Louis G. Nappi Construction Labor-Management Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $300,000 to date in order to encourage and strengthen the pursuit of engineering, math and science studies.
The 2015 Louis G. Nappi Construction Labor-Management Scholarship Fund grant recipients are:
• James Almeida, of Hillsdale, N.J., with a family affiliation to Heavy Construction Laborers L.U. 60, will study electrical engineering at Princeton University.
• Sophie Argenio, of Stony Point, N.Y., with a family affiliation to CIC-member company Agenio Brothers, Inc., will study civil engineering at the University of Vermont.
• Fernando Batista, of Lagrangeville, N.Y., with a family affiliation to Heavy Construction Laborers L.U. 60, will study civil engineering at SUNY Polytechnic.
• Adam Blandeburgo, of Bayport, N.Y., with a family affiliation to CIC-member company Northeast Structural Steel, Inc., will study mechanical engineering at Manhattan College.
• Adam Braccio, of New Canaan, Conn., with a family affiliation to Operating Engineers L.U. 137, will attend the University of Connecticut where he will study accounting.
• Paul Briggs, of Shrub Oak, N.Y., with an affiliation with Sentrale Construction Corp., will study mechanical engineering at SUNY Westchester.
• Thaylor Cacador, of Croton, N.Y., and with a family affiliation with Teamsters L.U. 456, will study mechanical engineering at Stony Brook University.
• Samantha Cachoian, of Yonkers, N.Y., with a family affiliation with Teamsters L.U. 456, will study civil engineering at Manhattan College.
• Matthew Carducci, of Harrison, N.Y., with a family affiliation with Operating Engineers L.U. 137, will study engineering at Lehigh University.
• Jonathan Circosta, of Ossining, N.Y., with a family affiliation to CIC-member company Peckham Industries, will study civil engineering at Drexel University.
• Paulo DeMelo, of Carmel, N.Y., with a family affiliation with Heavy Construction Laborers L.U. 60, will study electrical engineering at the University of Buffalo.
• David Glaittli, of Malverne, N.Y., with a family affiliation with CIC-member company Goldberg & Connolly, will study civil engineering at Hofstra University.
• Carly Marie Mannino, of Hartsdale, N.Y., with a family affiliation with CIC-member company Pinnacle Industries, will study industrial & management engineering and computer sciences at Rensselare Polytechnic Institute.
• Stefhan O’Connor, of New Rochelle, N.Y., with a family affiliation with Teamsters L.U. 456, will study civil engineering at Manhattan College.
• Andres Rojas, of New Rochelle, N.Y., with a family affiliation with Heavy Construction Laborers L.U. 60, will study mechanical engineering at Manhattan College.
