Louisville Cosmetic Family Dentist Urges Public to get Oral Cancer Screening
New Albany, IN (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 -- In honor of April being Oral Cancer Awareness month, New Albany cosmetic dentist Ronald Receveur wants to remind everyone to schedule an oral cancer screening.
“The American Cancer Society recommends a comprehensive oral evaluation and soft tissue exam annually, but only one in five patients follow through,” Dr. Receveur said. “The most important factors to survive oral cancer are early detection and diagnosis.”

People with high risk factors for oral cancer may be more likely to benefit from oral cancer screening, though studies haven't clearly proved that. increased risk factors for oral cancer include:

● Previous oral cancer
● Oral Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) exposure
During a standard oral exam, a dentist looks over the inside of your mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. Using gloved hands, the dentist also feels the tissues in your mouth to check for lumps or other abnormalities.
“Many people have sores in their mouths, with most being noncancerous,” Dr. Receveur said. “An oral exam can't determine which sores are cancerous.”
