New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Loyola University New Orleans junior Dianna Sanchez is one of five winners in a national Nintendo fan art competition commemorating the re-release of “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker” for the video game corporation’s new console, Wii U.
Sanchez along with the other finalists received a Wii U and a copy of “The Wind Waker HD.” Her work— inspired by the video game—was also among the top 50 finalists whose art is displayed on the main screen at the currently touring “The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses” concert, where it is accompanied by iconic music from “The Legend of Zelda” series. At the Sept. 12 Seattle performance of the concert tour, Sanchez and the other winners had their art displayed in the lobby of the venue.
An avid gamer, the Texas native has been playing “The Legend of Zelda” series since she was a child. When a friend referred her to the contest, Sanchez didn’t hesitate to enter. She created the digital artwork in its entirety by using a drawing tablet and Adobe Photoshop.
“The game itself is very cutesy, but it has a really cool story line that’s very mature. I tried to draw my piece in the old, 1800s fairytale style of art, which is my favorite kind of art,” Sanchez said.
The Nintendo competition is just a stepping-stone for Sanchez, who recently changed her major from psychology to art and design. She hopes to combine her creative passion with her psychology studies to pursue a career in art therapy.
“One of the things I really like about Loyola is the message that you use your education to help others. It’s not so much about getting an education to make more money, but it’s about using the tools Loyola gives you to do things for other people,” Sanchez said. “That’s one of the reasons I decided I really wanted to pursue something in the psychological sciences.”
