LULAC National Education Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC) Announces 2016-2017 NBCUniversal/LNESC Scholarship Program Recipients
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 01, 2016 -- Created and funded by Comcast/NBCUniversal/Telemundo, the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC) is pleased to announce the NBCUniversal/LNESC Scholarship program recipients for the 2016-17 academic year. Ten students from across the U.S. were selected to receive a one-time scholarship of $5,000 to pursue a degree at U.S. post-secondary institutions.

Recipients were selected based on their academic performance, professional goals, and interest in the entertainment industry. This year’s NBCUniversal/LNESC Scholarship Program recipients are:
• Jocelyn Contreras: Saint Mary’s College, Communicative Sciences and Spanish
• Karen Fich: New York University, Business
• Georgy Marrero: University of California Berkeley, Computer Science
• Marielle Martinez: Florida Southern College, Studio Art, English & Psychology
• Jackie Martinez-Chavez: North Carolina State University, Biomedical Engineering
• Bianca Munoz: University of Texas at Dallas, Biomedical Engineering
• Stephanie Patino-Garfias: Wright State University, Communications & Political Science
• Emely Rodriguez: Towson University, English & Communications
• Isabella Speedon: Saint Mary’s College, Sociology and Psychology
• Raquel Valenzuela: Eastern New Mexico University, Theatre

According to the Pew Research Hispanic Center, a record-setting 69 percent of Hispanic high school graduates enrolled in college last year. Despite the attainment gap narrowing, however, Hispanics continue to lag behind their counterparts in obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
