According to an August 2013 survey released by TripAdvisor who surveyed 1,100 US pet owners who travel, anticipated travel with a family pet in the next 12 months is substantially down from 71% last year to 44% this year. Respondents cited the top reasons for leaving their four-legged companions at home:

It’s difficult to find a pet-friendly accommodation – 51%
It’s a hassle to take a pet on vacation – 46%
It can be expensive taking a pet on vacation – 17%
