Lyme Research Alliance & Tick-Borne Disease Alliance to Kick-Off 1st “Lyme Walk & Run” Event, April 26
Stamford, CT (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Calling all runners, walkers and everyone who wants to join the fight against Lyme and other tick-borne diseases! The first annual “Lyme Walk & Run” will be held Sunday, April 26 at Cove Island Park in Stamford, CT. The event, hosted by Lyme Research Alliance(LRA) & Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (TBDA), will raise funds to support research and education about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
The family event, open to all ages and abilities, will feature 5K and 10K runs and one-mile and three-mile Walks that will start and finish in the park. There will also be a Fun Run inside the park for children under age 12, plus refreshments, music, vendors and information from the area’s health department and support groups. Anyone who registers by April 17 is guaranteed an event T-shirt.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the 5K and 10K runs kicking off at 10 a.m. inside the park, followed shortly by the walks and the Fun Run at 11:30 a.m. Individuals can register for $25 each ($30 day of event); families (up to six participants, same household) can pre-register at a family rate of $85 ($90 on day of event). The Walk & Run, timed to kick off Connecticut’s Lyme Disease Awareness Month, will be held rain or shine.
The Lyme Walk & Run is a newly created event launched by the merger of LRA and TBDA. The merger forms the leading tick-borne disease organization in the nation, allowing for greater resources to be applied to research on urgently needed improvements in diagnostics and treatments, while maintaining education programs for the general public and physicians.
“We are thrilled to be holding this first Lyme Walk & Run event,” said Event Co-Chair Orna Grand, who previously served as TBDA’s Westport Bite Back for a Cure Walk/Run event organizer. “By joining forces with LRA, we hopefully educate more people in the community about the impact of tick-borne diseases and the ongoing need for research funds.”
Sponsors for the event include Connecticut Tick Control, Greenwich Running Company, The Edge Fitness Clubs, Fleet Feet of Stamford, My Health First Urgent Care, Maritime Rowing Club, Freudigman & Billings, Gold’s Deli, Honda of Westport, Kash Group, A Touch of Magic and STAR 99.9.
