Lymphoma Research Ride Set to Kickoff its 10th Year in Support of Blood Cancer Research with Anniversary Cycling Event
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 08, 2016 -- The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services – will host its 10th annual Lymphoma Research Ride, a yearly cycling event in the Washington, DC-area to benefit the innovative research portfolio and patient education programs of the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
This year’s event will take place during Blood Cancer Awareness Month on September 25, 2016 in Montgomery County, Maryland. Over the last decade, the Lymphoma Research Ride has raised over $4 million in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation's mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by this disease. To date, the Lymphoma Research Ride’s picturesque and family friendly course has hosted over 1,553 riders of all skill levels and ages, totaling more than 80,800 miles ridden in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and its mission.
"With more than $4 million raised to-date, the Lymphoma Research Ride is truly changing lives,” said Dr. Bruce Cheson, MD, FACP, FAAAS, Georgetown University Hospital Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Past Chair of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board, and co-founder of the Lymphoma Research Ride. “As the event grows each year, we are able to help more individuals and their loved ones, not only in our DC community but nationwide, who have been affected by lymphoma. We’re humbled and inspired by the enthusiasm and the continued strength of riders, volunteers and supporters; because of their efforts we are that much closer to a cure for lymphoma.”
Participants can choose to ride a 10, 25, 40 or 50 mile route. The 10 and 25 miles routes are "flatter" than the more challenging 40 and 50 miles routes. Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in the day’s festivities, which include catered breakfast and lunch, a DJ, and special presentations. Children ages 10 and above are eligible to ride if accompanied by an adult rider. Individual riders will be asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 to participate, and children ages 10 - 17 will be asked to raise a minimum of $50. Team riders may share their money to average $1,000 per rider.
