Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival to Host Helicopter Egg Drop with 20,000 Eggs on March 28
Houston (PRWEB) March 25, 2015 -- (HOUSTON) –Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival, a free annual family event in Fifth Ward scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 in the 3700 block of Lyons Avenue, will include an egg hunt with 20,000 eggs, including thousands of eggs being dropped via helicopter. The festival, organized by Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation (FWCRC) and Houston City Council Member Jerry Davis, will also feature a variety of family activities and entertainment, including live music, a Kids Zone, a housing fair and health screenings.
“Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival is a ‘party with a purpose’ and designed so Fifth Ward and other Houston communities can come together to celebrate, enjoy live entertainment, learn more about housing in the neighborhood, healthcare information, and an array of other community services,” said Kathy Payton, CEO of FWCRC. “We’ve carefully curated the festival to ensure there’s something for everyone, and to provide opportunities to learn about valuable community resources available in the Fifth Ward and throughout the city. This year we’ve added something new, a helicopter is scheduled to drop thousands of goodie-filled, plastic eggs at 2 p.m. for the much anticipated urban egg hunt.”
Lakewood Church is sponsoring the Kids Zone, a premier attraction of the festival, which includes pony rides, trackless train, an interactive play area, kid friendly performances as well as arts and crafts stations.
Festival goers of all ages should prepare for an action-packed afternoon, with lively attractions, such as:
• Three entertainment stages featuring live performances by:
o Blues singer and Fifth Ward native Trudy Lynn
o Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers
o The internationally-renowned HAVIKORO break-dancing crew
o Youth mariachi band
• A housing fair presented by mortgage lenders, local builders, and community organizations that help individuals and families navigate the home buying process
• Health screenings for the entire family
• Local businesses and merchants selling custom goods
• Food vendors preparing diverse cuisine and fresh snacks
• A scavenger hunt will highlight the community’s rich history and spotlight the newly renovated DeLuxe Theater
