Mabey Inc. Gives Atton Brickell Hotel a Lift With a Custom-Designed Construction Elevator
Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 24, 2015 -- Mabey Inc., a construction equipment rental company, with 10 locations on the East Coast, is energized by the recent innovation of their System 160 Shoring System that expands the capabilities of its versatile product line. System 160 is ideal for light duty structural shoring projects such as needling in confined spaces and propping for façade retention — but more recently the unique features of the propping system proved to be a flexible solution for custom-designed buck hoists in building construction.
Safety Guys, a full service safety services management contractor in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was contracted to devise a cost- effective, safe solution for spanning the gap between the hoist cars and the building slab edges on the 12-story, 275-room Atton Brickell Hotel project in Miami. They found that the standard hoist system (elevator) used to transport crew and equipment from floor to floor, could not operate safely because the lower floor balcony extensions interfered with the path of the hoist cars. Because of these extended floors, the buck hoists could not get close enough to the structure to make it safe for operation.
A representative on the project stated: "The traditional means for providing this solution is through the use of a very cumbersome and cluttering scaffold shoring system. The Mabey system eliminates the need for the numerous cross braces and scaffold legs that make the area in and around the scaffolding virtually inaccessible. The Mabey system makes for a very clean installation that is very accommodating for the end user."
Safety Guys worked with Mabey engineers to design a plan using System 160 towers to support the platform extensions that connected from the hoist car to the building. The plan also called for propping under the hotel’s lower floors and basement to reinforce capacity and keep the site safe. Once the lower floors were propped and the bridges were installed, crews were able to safely use the construction elevator to move materials from the hoist car into the building.
Mabey’s System 160 proved to be a durable, time-saving solution because it is versatile and can be configured to fit various applications — yet strong enough for high-load capacities. The alternative would have been much more time-consuming as Safety Guys would have had to build a lumber framework towering over 80 feet high to support the platforms. Mabey’s steel shoring was a much more durable, and safer alternative. Safety Guys’ dedication to safety and experience in the field — together with Mabey’s engineering expertise and adaptable shoring system — created an innovative solution to solve a problem and resulted in a new application for the System 160 system.
