Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) April 21, 2014 -- On Monday, April 21st, Rough Stuff Entertainment is launching a Kickstarter campaign for a new action comedy feature film, titled MACK LUSTER. Mack Luster is a 1980s action hero who became legend as a character in the cult indie film VISIONEERS (2009), starring Zach Galifianakis. Now the film's director Jared Drake and "Mack Luster" actor Ryan McCann have teamed up in Rough Stuff Entertainment to give Mack Luster his very own big screen debut.
All begins with good people doing bad things. Senior citizens attack frat houses. Girl scouts poison thin mints. Laird Hamilton snakes waves from groms. A mysterious evil named CHAYOS has infected citizens and is turning the world upside down. Literally. In desperation, the President of the United States activates a top-secret human scanner to bring Mack Luster, a fictional character from a 1980s TV show, to life to defeat CHAYOS.
Mack’s got buns. He’s got guns. He’s got luster. But nothing prepares him for the dangers of the real world: political correctness, social malaise, and peppermint mochas––these are evils Luster never had to face before. He realizes that in order to be a hero, he first needs to learn to be a man.
“With the way cameras and DIY effects have evolved (and continue to every day!), you don’t need a 100 person crew to be epic,” says director Jared Drake. “Much of the crazy world you’ll see in the Mack Luster Kickstarter video was filmed in my garage against a 10 x12 green screen.”
Both Drake and McCann have excelled in the entertainment industry for over 10 years. “But on a Hollywood scale, we’re nobodies,” says Ryan McCann. “With Kickstarter, we’re cutting out the Hollywood machine to go straight to our potential viewers to ask: Do want to see this movie? Talk about the democratization of filmmaking. We’re basically pre-selling to our fans.”
“Awesome Cheese.” Explains Jared Drake, “It’s what the 80s have taught us: to roll down your window and blare loud music cruising up to putt-putt golf; or dance to a song that isn’t even playing on the radio but it’s playing in your head, so screw it, you’re going to dance hard. It’s a thorough lack of political correctness because you wear your heart on your sleeve. That’s what the 80s mean to us. And it's what we are striving to glorify with Mack Luster. So if you love the 80s, this movie is for you."
The goal is to be in production by July. For more information, visit http://www.mackluster.com.
