MADD Thanks Representative Frank Wolf for His Leadership in Highway Safety

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- With the recent announcement that Virginia Representative Frank Wolf will retire when the current Congress adjourns in 2014, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) expresses its gratitude to Congressman Wolf for his leadership and advocacy in saving lives and stopping drunk driving.

During his service as chairman of the House Transportation Appropriations Committee, Wolf championed traffic safety initiatives to stop drunk driving, improve truck safety, and make traffic safety a national priority.

“Representative Wolf helped author the national .08 BAC standard, one of the nation’s most significant accomplishments in the fight against drunk driving,” said MADD National President Jan Withers. “His efforts have saved countless lives on our highways and MADD is truly grateful for his efforts.”

Wolf’s legislation enacted in 2000 effectively made .08 the national BAC standard. Further, it laid the foundation for MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving®, which is working in every state and at the federal level to save lives.

Since his first term in Congress in 1981 Wolf has helped lead the nation by improving federal traffic safety efforts. Wolf also spearheaded the formation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in an effort to improve truck safety standards.

“We wish Representative Wolf the best as he retires from Congress,” said Withers.
