MADD Victim Services Specialist Visits A Forever Recovery Rehabilitation Facility
Battle Creek, Michigan (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- In an effort to encourage community outreach and cooperation between organizations that seek to help with the problems of substance abuse that face today’s society, A Forever Recovery invited members of the Michigan chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to come to their rehabilitation center. The facility, located in Southwest Michigan hosted a tour of the grounds and briefed the MADD group on the unique addiction treatment program. On May 1st, 2015, MADD Victim Services Specialist Angel Harris, along with the MADD Michigan Program Director Tyler Maceachran and MADD affiliate Marsha Heimbach, spent the day with A Forever Recovery Deputy Director Lewis Anderson, who showed them around and spoke with them about the recovery program used there.
“Cooperative efforts must be made if we hope to be an effective force in the battle against addiction,” said A Forever Recovery founder and CEO Per Wickstrom. “By reaching out to other organizations and groups that, like MADD, wish to help make our streets and neighborhoods safe for our residents, and especially for our children, we can stand strong against drug abuse and alcoholism. We were honored to have the MADD Michigan affiliates tour our facility, and look forward to the potential of working with them in future endeavors.”
Mother’s Against Drunk Driving [MADD]
Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a nationally recognized organization that was founded in 1980 by a mother who had lost her child due to an alcohol-related automobile accident. In the decades since it was founded, MADD has grown in membership and in reach, making great progress in raising awareness about drunk and drugged driving, and has fought hard for tougher laws regarding this dangerous practice, making great strides in keeping our roads and highways safer for everyone. The stated mission of MADD is “to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.”
Angel Harris has worked with MADD Michigan for the past three years, and was impressed by what she saw at the A Forever Recovery treatment center. “I believe that this is a great opportunity for us to connect with and reach out to those that are in recovery,” she commented in an interview after the tour. “I feel that this allows us to reach people at a different point in their life and in their recovery, and hopefully our involvement in that will prevent any drunk or drugged driving moving forward.” A video of Ms. Harris’s interview is available on the A Forever Recovery YouTube Channel.
