Mahala Launches Mobile Payments App, Partners with Atlanta Falcons Receiver Roddy White

White, a four-time Pro Bowler and the Falcons’ single-season receiving yards record holder, launched the “Score Six for the Kids” fundraiser to increase awareness and money for his Keep the Faith Foundation. The nonprofit, previously called the Playmaker Foundation, gives out scholarships, donates football equipment to high schools, and funds mentoring programs.
“When I was growing up in South Carolina, I vowed to give back when I could,” White said. “As a role model, I know I can make a huge difference in underprivileged kids’ lives. With Mahala, we all can make it easier than ever to help them financially.”
Fans can donate as little as $1 by downloading Mahala Wallet and scanning an S-QR image during the fundraising dates. Prizes depend on the amount donated, and include autographed pictures, mini helmets, footballs and jerseys. If $50,000 is raised by Dec. 28, all donors will be put into a raffle to win either two 2014 season tickets or a full-size pro Falcons helmet signed by White and other teammates.
White said he chose Mahala to power his fundraiser due to the app being faster than other payment methods and because it’s free to both the user and the merchant. He also said Mahala’s security was an important factor.
As Mahala users scan sellers’ S-QR codes, bank account information is never stored at the point of purchase – unlike credit cards or traditional QR payment systems.
