Maharishi University of Management Introduces Collaborative MD/MS Degree with St. Martinus University
(PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- Maharishi University of Management (MUM) announces a collaboration with St. Martinus University of Medicine, located on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao, to offer a dual degree track in integrative medicine: a MD in modern medicine, and an MS in Maharishi AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine. The first students will begin classes in September of 2015.
Students who enroll in the program will spend their first two years at the St. Martinus campus studying the basic science courses of medicine. They will rotate through American hospitals for clinical training in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and psychiatry during their last two years.
One of their rotations will be at the MUM campus Maharishi AyurVeda Clinic, directed by Maharishi AyurVeda expert, Dr. Jim Davis. During the clinical rotations, students will continue their studies to integrate modern medical and natural medical practices, via ongoing teleseminars with MUM faculty and guest speakers.
Dr. Robert Schneider, MD, FACC, Dean of MUM’s Maharishi College of Perfect Health who spearheaded this coalition, says, “Students will receive a high level of training in science and in evidence-based approaches to both types of medicine. They will be well qualified to fill the increasing number of job openings in integrative medicine clinics and centers in the U.S. We created this partnership with St. Martinus because they have a strong track record of training doctors who subsequently practice in the U.S. and Canada. Approximately 97% of their graduates obtain residencies in North America, which is a common measure of success for a medical school. A residency is the last step before licensure.”
After successful completion of the program, each student will receive an MD from SMU, and an MS in Maharishi Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine from MUM. The MD degree from SMU will allow graduates to take the US medical licensure exams and practice integrative medicine in the US. They will also be qualified to take similar exams in other regions of the world, such as Latin America and Europe. In addition, the MS degree will qualify such physicians to integrate Maharishi Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine into their medical practice.
