Main Street Dental Team Releases Tips on How to Prepare for Dental Visits

“Going to the dentist is a nerve-wracking experiences for many Canadians. The fear of drills and needles seems to cause anxiety and, in some cases, actually prevents people from making regular visits,” says Dr. Harvey Schwartz, owner of the Main Street Dental Team. “It’s something patients struggle with, so it’s a problem that dentists need to address and they need to try to find ways to get people to feel more comfortable before their visits.”
Dr. Schwartz explains that anxieties can be reduced by educating individuals about what their checkups or dental procedures will actually consist of. This can eliminate the fear of the unknown, which is the cause of many instances of anxiety, both inside and outside dental offices.
“The technology used in the majority of dental clinics has made it simpler and less intrusive to assess and operate. And the techniques utilized have also made it less painful for patients,” he adds. ”People are encouraged to just have a conversation with their dentist prior to coming in for a check-up or procedure in order to address many of their concerns.”
According to Dr. Schwartz, practicing proper oral hygiene is also important. If patients brush and floss regularly, it eliminates the need for any serious surgeries, which will require more post-op care and can potentially be more painful.
“Caring for one’s own teeth is a huge step towards getting rid of the anxiety,” Dr. Schwartz concludes. “A person’s oral health is a major factor in determining how much work we have to do. The healthier someone’s teeth and gums are, the less they need to stress.”
