Maine Car Accident Lawyer Joe Bornstein Discusses Car Accident Prevention In Maine
Portland, ME (PRWEB) October 27, 2013 -- Commenting on news that the Maine Department of Transportation (DOT) will progressively add rumble strips to state roadways, Maine car accident lawyer Joe Bornstein said today that these important crash deterrents are crucial to driver safety in Maine.
According to the Press Herald (“Safety success keeps Maine ready to rumble,” September 20), center lane rumble strips will be added to Route 4 in Berwick and Route 111 between Biddeford and Alfred this fall. The DOT plans on expanding to other roads in the coming years, the article states.
“Rumble strips are pieces of grooved pavement that alert drivers when they’re veering out-of-lane by producing an audible noise and intense vibration of the vehicle,” said Bornstein, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “As we’ve seen across the state in recent years, rumble strips have become an important crash deterrent. The number of annual head-on collisions and fatalities has dropped on highways where rumble strips were installed.”
The Press Herald article cited the success of rumble strips in the towns of Turner and Woolwich in the state’s recent decision to construct center lane rumble strips across Maine. According to the article, in the six years prior to the construction of rumble strips in 2006, there were 21 head-on crashes and eight fatalities reported. Since the addition of the center lane strips, only 10 head-on crashes were reported, and there were no fatalities.
Furthermore, the Maine DOT said any kind of accident prevention effort makes sense today due to modern day distractions such as cell phones and text messaging, according to the Press Herald article. Officials said they believe statistics show center lane rumble strips to be an effective crash deterrent.
Maine sees about 800 head-on crashes per year, with 40 fatalities as a result of these accidents, according to the Press Herald.
“That’s 40 tragic and unnecessary losses every year,” said Bornstein, a car accident lawyer in Maine. “With the addition of these center lane rumble strips, we hope to see these accident and fatality rates fall.”
Bornstein said personal injury lawyers in Maine can help injured victims and families who lost loved ones in accidents pursue compensation for their losses. He said attorneys also can help send a message that negligent driving behavior will not be tolerated in Maine.
