Major Festivals and Concerts Lined up June through November on Kauai’s Royal Coconut Coast

These include Taste of Hawaii, The Red Clay Jazz Festival, Heiva I Kauai (Tahitian dance competition), Paradise Ride, the Kauai Coconut Festival and the Kauai Writer’s Conference. June 5th: Taste of Hawaii -- at Smith’s Tropical Paradise in Wailua. This is the original food and wine tasting extravaganza for the Hawaiian islands and on Kauai. Produced by the Rotary Club of Kapaa and countless community volunteers, this year marks the 28th year of staging what has become known as “The Ultimate Sunday Brunch.” A fundraiser, Taste of Hawaii brings in 40 chefs from restaurants around Hawaii, 15 beverage vendors, 10 musical and entertainment groups and a silent auction. August 3rd-6th: Red Clay Jazz Festival -- U.S. mainland, Oahu and Kauai jazz performers entertain island-wide at different venues culminating with an ocean-front main concert on August 6th at the Courtyard Kauai at Coconut Beach headlined by legendary percussionist Pete Escevedo and his septet from California. August 6th and 7th: Heiva I Kauai – at Kapaa Beach Park. Heiva I Kaua`i is an international Tahitian dance and drumming competition which includes solo and group competitors from throughout Hawai’i, the Mainland and Japan. August 6th and 7th: The 11th Annual Paradise Ride Kauai – This 120-mile bike ride is an organized group riding event to benefit Malama Pono Health services of Kauai. Expecting 100 riders in 2016, the event is headquartered at the Courtyard Kauai at Coconut Beach. Routes cover scenic coastal, mountainous and interior jungle roadways and paths. Malama Pono provides individualized compassionate health care services and education to meet the evolving needs of those on Kauai.
October 1 and 2: The 18th Annual Kauai Coconut Festival -- at Kapaa Beach Park. This popular community festival provides demonstrations about the many uses, by-products and history surrounding coconut, a vital staple among Polynesian cultures. The festival also provides continual entertainment, cooking demonstrations by Kauai's signature chefs, a large gathering of Kauai artisans (featuring certified Kauai Made vendors), crafters and Polynesian products. In addition there will be kooky coconut games, pie-eating contests, a coconut cook-off contest and hands-on activities. November 4-6: Kauai Writer’s Conference – at Courtyard Kauai Coconut Beach. This annual event draws bestselling authors, scriptwriters, industry experts and literary agents to provide their expertise to both amateur and professional writers. Registration is open to 150 attendees, with numerous panels, presentations, workshops, readings and discussions planned for this three-day event. The conference is organized to help writers develop skills in an environment characterized by the aloha spirit qualities of sharing, unity, respect and community. First Saturday: A recurring major event on the Royal Coconut Coast is the First Saturday Art Walk held in Kapaa’s Old Town every first Saturday of the month. Kapaa merchants and restaurants stay open late offering many specials. Artists, food vendors and musicians set up along the street with musical performances throughout the town. The event has grown in popularity drawing hundreds of residents and visitors.
