Malena Belafonte Presents The Journey Fashion Festival, a Multi-Cultural Fashion Festival that Introduces Designers from Around the World
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2016 -- With a radical paradigm shift happening within the fashion industry, Malena Belafonte has created THE JOURNEY FASHION FESTIVAL, a platform for established and emerging international designers, giving them a high profile presence during Fashion Week in NY and additional markets, in a new and innovative format. The Festival gives foreign designers the opportunity to increase visibility and provide a stage where they can showcase their collections during New York Fashion Week, whose current “system” has traditionally worked for only a few privileged designers and has excluded the public at large.
This “teaser” will feature eight collections from among the most innovative fashion designers across the globe, including countries such as Hungary, Denmark, and Costa Rica, whose talent has largely been kept secret from the American market. International fashion designers, Este & Chlo by Henry Picado, former head designer for Bob Mackie, and Makány Márta, a popular Hungarian designer, will premiere their collections and share the stage with other designers, dancers, singers, models, and artists. More than just a fashion show, guests will see live musical performances intertwined with runway shows, or can retreat to the “lounges” to enjoy local Hungarian cuisine and other experiences. Project Runway make up artist to the stars Kim Baker will be introducing her cosmetics line “Glamazon Beauty”. Famed hair salon SCK will be on hand for consultation.
Originally from Rwanda, The Uwi Twins, a designing duo out of Canada, is telling their story through their collection. Inspired by Parisian Fashion, they have created that bridge of "High fashion Paris street-wear meets African Luxury”. Another designing duo is behind Cristalle, a new bridal line for millennials, based in New York and created by Ecuadorian designer Cristina Marulanda and Argentinian fashion designer Alejandro Trucco.
Members from the off-Broadway hit Stomp will perform original pieces specifically choreographed for The Journey. There will also be a special appearance from philanthropist and Parson’s graduate, Monica Singh, who survived an acid attack over ten years ago. Representing The Journey’s Philanthropic arm, she will proudly walk the runway, providing hope for all victims of domestic abuse.
To coincide with the Festival, Belafonte will be introducing Haute House’s Incubator Program, an initiative to give exposure and establish connections between fashion students and experts in the industry. Aspiring fashion designers will be educated on how to succeed by guiding them through the business of the fashion industry. Being a part of The Journey give them the ultimate goal of showing during Fashion Week with the opportunity for sales through the web platform.
THE JOURNEY FASHION FESTIVAL looks to level Fashion Week’s historically exclusionary playing field, giving these gifted designers, the fashion industry, and the public the exposure and the voice that has been missed for far too long.
