Malouf Honored with Green Business Award for Corporate Excellence
LOGAN, Utah (PRWEB) January 15, 2016 -- Malouf, an upscale bedding accessories manufacturer, received a 2015 Green Business Award for Corporate Excellence from Utah Business magazine. Utah Business honored 16 companies or individuals who have committed to practicing sustainability, conservation or eco-friendly innovations and prove that going green is easier now than ever before.
“It’s great and very enabling what technology advancements are made available for people and companies like us,” said Sam Malouf, CEO of Malouf. “It’s getting easier to pursue the green initiative.”
For Malouf, progress toward green business practices has been an evolution of its culture, which revolves around overall wellness. For its employees, Malouf provides a private chef who makes daily lunch from its on-site garden and other local, sustainable foods. The company has twice won—and remains the only winner—of the local Bike to Work Day competition.
Recently, Malouf announced it flipped the switch on a large solar panel system atop the roof of its new headquarters. Combined with several electric car charging stations, the company expects the building will have a low environmental impact by being 80-100 percent off the grid.
Malouf also creates environmentally responsible products, of which the poster-children are its sheets, protectors and pillows integrated with TENCEL; a soft fabric deriving from raw wood pulp in an award-winning closed loop process.
During his opening remarks, Sam Urie, the publisher for Utah Business said, “It is our goal with these awards to encourage even more companies to get involved and identify the strides they can make as well. The more companies and organizations that get involved, the bigger the impact we can all make.”
Malouf’s marketing communications director, Jake Neeley, echoed this message while accepting the company’s award.
“In most of the media interviews that we have, it usually starts with: ‘you’re not a tech company; why would a high-end sheet company want to be a leader in green energy?’ And the typical answer that we give them is: ‘because it’s simple and it’s easy.’ We are very happy and grateful to the innovations that have come out that make it possible and feasible to be green.”
Though solar energy won’t power its Las Vegas Showroom, visitors can still experience the food prepared by Malouf’s in-house chef and its TENCEL products—among other things—during the upcoming Las Vegas Market at the World Market Center in C1540.
