Manatee County’s Opioid Task Force Calls for More Funding and Face to Face Counseling After Overdose
Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 31, 2015 -- On July 22nd the Bradenton Herald reported the Opioid Task Force held their first meeting in Manatee county to discuss plausible solutions for controlling the heroin outbreak. Ultimately the committee expressed lack of funding, and the absence of relatable guidance after the event of an overdose is largely perpetuating the heroin crisis in North Florida. The task force has proposed to instate counselors to meet with overdose victims extensively after revival to usher them into treatment programs where they will recover, and avoid returning to their old lifestyles on the streets. Many rehabilitation centers in Florida are limited in the number of clients they can admit, and have trouble providing tuition assistance to those who need treatment but cannot afford it. Harbor Village is a Miami Detox and rehabilitation center providing recovering users with the treatment they need to live productive, happy lives after treatment. The facility supports the task force’s assessments, and will lobby for proposed bills which seek to expand funding for treatment centers.
An associate from the Florida Drug Detox center comments, “Funding has always been an issue, in regards to providing for those who cannot provide for themselves. We just don’t have the resources to make the impact we should be able to. In low income communities drug use is rife, but treatment is not- and that’s a fundamental issue of treatment centers. We are unable to offer large communities the treatment they need, and so eventually overdose takes them, and new addicts take their place. If we are to respond to the addiction epidemic we need to do so at the root of communities, as this is where children are exposed to what they perceive to be typical behavior, often including drug use.
“And it’s not only for the sake of preventing a new generation of drug users, but to ensure those who have already struggled with the throes of addiction are able to transform their lives into something they can be proud of without hesitation. Drug addiction robs its users of everything.”
Harbor Village specializes in both drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Clients undergo extensive cognitive behavioral therapy to ensure patients learn how to constrictively deal with the underlying causes of addiction. During treatment clients learn how to manage their emotions safely and reach out for help from their support systems by utilizing communication techniques learned in therapy. Harbor Village provides 24 hour medical and psychiatric monitoring and medically assisted drug treatment to help clients detox painlessly and stave off cravings for addictive substances during treatment.
