Manchester Mosquito Stomp: Walk to fight malaria
Manchester, New Hampshire (PRWEB) June 11, 2015 -- More than 1,000 members of the New England Conference of The United Methodist Church will be in Manchester, NH, for their Annual Conference June 18-20, 2015. These clergy and laity come from churches across New England.
United Methodists are engaged in a worldwide effort – through the denomination's Imagine No Malaria campaign – to eradicate malaria in sub-Saharan Africa by providing education, treatment and prevention resources.
We are inviting folks to join us in this life-saving work by participating in the Manchester Mosquito Stomp on Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Veterans Park. Registration begins at 3 p.m. Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas will join us at 5, and the walk steps off at 5:30.
Nearly 100 people have already signed up for this 1-mile walk to raise awareness and funds for Imagine No Malaria. The walk will begin at Veterans Park, head down Elm Street to the Masonic Temple and back to the park. Full details are available at http://www.manchestermosquitostomp.org
For a $20 contribution folks can join the fight against this preventable disease that kills someone in sub-Saharan Africa every 60 seconds. T-shirts, fans, water bottles and fly swatters will be given away while supplies last.
Old Shoes -New Life: Mosquito Stomp participants are also invited to donate lightly used shoes for distribution to those in need locally and in Africa. Shoes will be collected between 3-6 p.m. outside the Radisson Hotel Downtown, 700 Elm St. Our goal is to give new life to at least 4,000 pairs of shoes.
The New England Conference comprises more than 91,000 United Methodists in six states. We are committed to raising $1 million for Imagine No Malaria. To date, we have received gifts and pledges of $820,000. The Manchester Mosquito Stomp is another step – or many steps – toward reaching our goal.
