MantisX consists of a hardware device that attaches to the gun and records movements of the gun to diagnose the mechanics of the shooter. It comes with a free mobile app for iOS and Android that connects via Bluetooth to the device to transmit and record the data.
The app analyzes the movements of the gun prior to, during, and after the shot to diagnose what the shooter was doing right and wrong. It scores the shot and provides feedback to the shooter on how to improve.
"MantisX was created to solve my own shooting issues," says Austin Allgaier, MantisX co-founder. "I was frustrated by my lack of improvement in shooting, and no diagnostic tool on the market was able to help me.”
The two most common techniques for technique analysis are diagnostic targets and instructor analysis.
“What we found with MantisX,” says Allgaier, “is that both targets and instructors can’t always accurately identify what is a problem with the shooting mechanics vs. incorrect sighting vs. overcompensation vs. an inaccurate firearm. MantisX removes all outside factors in order to see clearly what issues exist with core shooting mechanics.”
Prototypes were developed in summer 2014, tested rigorously with shooters at all levels, and then went into full product development mode to prepare for mass market entry. In the final stages of FCC approval, it is anticipated to be available in the coming months.
“Our early testing showed shot accuracy improvement within 40 rounds 100% of the time,” says Pavel Yurevich, an engineer on the project. “Since then, interest from law enforcement, military, and private gun owners has been very, very strong. We can’t get it to market soon enough.”
MantisX promises to improve shooting accuracy in a shorter period of time, reduce ammunition cost, and maintain a history of performance to enable deeper analysis and improvement. User testing has confirmed this to be the case, says Yurevich, with rigorous testing ongoing and improvements continually being made. Since it is a mobile app, anyone who purchases the device will be able to access all future enhancements and improvements for free.
MantisX will be present at dozens of trade shows nationwide over the coming months and available in retail stores and online through a significant number of retailers.
