Marc Ribot to Perform, Lead Improvisation Workshop at Marylhurst
Marylhurst, OR (PRWEB) April 23, 2015 -- Marc Ribot, a guitarist renowned for exploring new waters and taking other brave souls – such as Tom Waits, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello and John Mellencamp – along for the ride, will perform in concert and lead a workshop in free-improvisation techniques May 8-9, 2015, at Marylhurst University.
On Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m., Ribot will appear in a solo concert in St. Anne’s Chapel. Tickets are $20 online or $25 at the door.
On Saturday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m., Ribot will lead a group workshop on free-improvisation techniques. All musicians, professional or amateur, are welcome. The workshop fee is a sliding scale, $5 to $15.
On Saturday, May 9 at 5 p.m., the Free-Improvisation Orchestra – workshop participants – will perform a mash-up mini-concert with Ribot at the helm. Free and open to the public.

MARC RIBOT, who the New York Times describes as "a deceptively articulate artist who uses inarticulateness as an expressive device," has released over 20 albums under his own name over a 30-year career, exploring everything from the pioneering jazz of Albert Ayler to the Cuban son of Arsenio Rodríguez.
