March’s IT Employment Down Slightly, Report Says
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 30, 2017 -- The various sectors that form the IT industry added 13,500 jobs in March, a slight drop from the 13,900 jobs gained in February, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, April 7, 2017.
“Despite not losing any jobs, March’s overall employment gains still came up short compared to February,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “Tech jobs within the professional services sector, that is Computer Systems Design and Related Services, and Management and Technical Consulting Services were down by 18 percent and 8 percent respectively.”
The IT industry includes the Data Processing, Hosting and Related Services subsector, the Computer Electronic Product Manufacturing subsector, the Computer Systems Design and Related Services subsector, and the Management and Technical Consulting Services subsector.
Data Processing and Hosting held steady at 300,300 employed persons, neither gaining or losing jobs in March. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has gained 1,800 jobs.
Computer Electronic Manufacturing gained 700 jobs in March after losing 200 in February. The subsector now sits at 1,036,600 employed persons with an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has lost 15,300 jobs while the unemployment rate has dropped 0.3 percentage points from 2.8 percent in April 2016.
Computer Systems Design and Related Services gained 4,500 jobs in March and now sits at 2,050,800 employed persons. Over the past year, the subsector has gained 90,500 jobs.
The Management and Technical Consulting Services subsector gained 8,300 jobs in March. The subsector now sits at 1,426,200 employed persons.
