Marianjoy Receives Generous Grant from The DuPage Community Foundation
Wheaton, Illinois (PRWEB) May 02, 2014 -- The DuPage Community Foundation recently awarded a $20,000 grant to Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital of Wheaton, Illinois, to support the creation of a biologically diverse and peaceful rain garden that will improve the quality of storm water while adding to Marianjoy’s holistic healing environment.
“We are grateful to The DuPage Community Foundation for their generosity and for partnering with Marianjoy to ensure that we can meet this vision in advancing rehabilitative care for our community,” said Kathleen Yosko, Marianjoy President and CEO. “At Marianjoy, we thoughtfully integrate the healing effects of nature into our environment and the creation of the native rain garden will enlarge the scope of our holistic, healing atmosphere.”
Marianjoy enlisted the expertise of DuPage Stormwater Management in conceptualizing the rain garden, which was designed by Bammi & Associates, LLC. Permeable pathway pavers are expected to reduce excessive water runoff, and prairie plants will create a natural habitat for wildlife. In addition, the accessible rain garden will allow patients and visitors in wheelchairs to explore Marianjoy’s 60-acre wooded campus more safely and easily.
The rain garden will replace the current retention pond and will reside adjacent to the new Aquatic Therapy Center. These additions are features of Marianjoy’s Legacy Campaign, a capital improvement project that will focus on the expansion of an Assistive Rehabilitation Technology Institute, a new Aquatic Therapy Center, and a modern Conference and Education Center. The Grand Opening for the new facilities is slated for the fall.
