Mark Cantor of Cantor & Burger, LLC Celebrates Second Jury Trial in 2015

Robert Mitchell vs. Lucy Vaught (case 13SL-CC03130 heard in circuit court of St Louis County before Judge Robert Cohen, 21st judicial court in state of MO, Division 1) was settled in favor of partner and attorney Mark Cantor's client, Robert Mitchell.
According to court documents, Mitchell, a 64-year-old former marine from the St. Louis area, was struck by 81-year-old Lucy Vaught in May of 2012.
According to court documents, the defendant, Vaught, claimed that she heard an ambulance siren, which caused her to look around to see where it was coming from and the distraction caused her to rear-end Mitchell's vehicle. However, the defense argued that she was not negligent because the ambulance caused the collision.
According to court documents, the accident ended up costing Mitchell $6,000 in chiropractic care, which the defendant refused to pay before the trial.
According to court documents, when the case went to trial, the defendant argued that the medical bills were incurred by old age and arthritis rather than the collision. Vaught's insurance company also argued that the ambulance was to blame, and that Vaught wasn't able to react in time to prevent the collision.
According to court documents, ultimately, the jury ruled in favor of Mitchell and awarded him $35,000.
