Nashville, TN (PRWEB) May 24, 2014 -- Mark Cuban's recent comments about bigotry and prejudice have been quoted repeatedly since he spoke at Inc.’s GrowCo 2014 conference this past Wednesday in Nashville, TN. The video excerpt can be seen here: http://www.inc.com/maria-aspan/mark-cuban-discusses-bigotry-post-donald-sterling-fiasco.html albeit without the context of the full interview.
GrowCo attendee and Ayutopia International CEO, Ariana Ayu, had this to say about Cuban's comments. "He was being open about several difficult subjects, and the issue with Sterling of course, came up. I believe his [Cuban's] point was that we all have prejudices; it's part of human nature. We know that pattern recognition and the ability to ignore neutral stimuli while focusing on potential threats are hardwired into our biology. That's what he was talking about. The important thing is not to pretend we're above prejudice but to understand that we ALL pre-judge people and situations, and not to let that basic human trait cause us to behave unkindly because of it."
The event in question, Inc.'s GrowCo 2014 conference in Nashville, TN, May 20-22, was an event for entrepreneurs and business owners from a wide variety of industries. The event objective was to provide learning and networking activities, including interviews with leading entrepreneurs. The speakers included Marc Cuban, "Papa John" Schnatter, Bert Jacobs (co-founder, Life Is Good), Jason Fried (Co-founder, Basecamp), Amy Jo Martin (CEO, Digital Royalty), Les McKeown (author, Predictable Success), as well as several of Inc. Magazine’s 2013 “30 under 30” young entrepreneurs to watch.
While Cuban’s comments may have eclipsed any other media buzz this conference may have warranted, attendees such as Ayu and Ayutopia International CTO, David Robb, came away from the conference with many other highlights than simply witnessing the Cuban interview. “I thought the networking and tech sessions were most useful,” said Robb, “but it was also cool to see Mark Cuban live.”
“Despite the Cuban controversy, the connections we made at this event, the insights, and the inspiration will last longer for most of us than snippets of that one interview,” says Ayu. She noted that key highlights included: the importance of having a collaborative corporate culture and how that affects profitability, current trends in social media, digital and content marketing, and forging connections with Inc. staff and conference attendees.
