Mark Mueckenheim Appointed Director of the Graduate Program of the School of Architecture, Academy of Art University, San Francisco; Prestigious Visiting Study Workshop with U.K.’s Architecture Association Announced for Summer 2014
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- Academy of Art University announced today the appointment of Mark Mueckenheim as Director of the Graduate Program of the School of Architecture. Mueckenheim brings an extensive array of career accomplishments and an international perspective that will substantially impact the creative growth and professional reach of the school.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mark to our School of Architecture. His impressive professional work and dynamic leadership will be transformational for our program,” said Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of the Academy of Art University.
Premiering at the Academy of Art University in the summer of 2014 is the highly acclaimed AA Visiting School, the world-renowned program of the reputed Architectural Association School of Architecture, located in central London. The design challenge for this upcoming 2014 summer is to create lightweight architectural flying kites, utilizing digital manufacturing such as laser cutting and 3D printing. Furthermore, the workshop will apply projection and mapping software that will augment the physical structure and surfaces in flight. The workshop is open to current architecture and design students from any institution, Ph.D. candidates, and young design professionals.
“The AA summer school that we are hosting at the Academy in 2014 offers a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with some of the most advanced technology available to inform advanced architectural design thinking,” said Mueckenheim.
Mueckenheim is a licensed architect in Germany and the European Union, the principal of MCKNHM Architects, and the co-author of the book Inspiration - Contemporary Design Methods in Architecture, released by BIS Publishers in 2012. Before establishing his own architecture practice in 2001, he worked and collaborated with different architecture firms in Germany, the USA and England, gaining extensive experience from concept to realization on various projects of internationally recognized design excellence.
Mueckenheim’s award-winning work has been featured in various international books and journals, and has also gained reputation through a number of exhibitions in Germany and abroad—most recently the House of Architecture in Lille, France; the German Architecture center in Berlin; and the 12th Architecture Biennale in Venice.
Mueckenheim has lectured and acted as a guest critic at numerous institutions in Germany and abroad. Among other schools, he taught for more than six years at the distinguished RWTH Aachen University before being appointed as a visiting professor at the TU Munich from 2009 to 2012.
Educated in Germany, the United States, and England, sponsored by a Fulbright scholarship and a DAAD grant from the German government, Mueckenheim received his Master of Architecture from Parsons School of Design, New York, and his Graduate Diploma in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London.
The School of Architecture at the Academy of Art University has an extensive onsite program and facilities in the SOMA district of San Francisco, as well as an accredited online M.Arch. program with the same course and studio classes as the onsite program. The online degree program gives students the flexibility to take some or all of their coursework online, and the ability to work with local and global instructors on an individual basis.
