Eugene, Oregon (PRWEB) July 25, 2014 -- OnlineAuction.com is more than just another internet auction site. In fact, OLA (as it is referred to by its users), is like visiting a department store that carries everything you could possibly want but comes with such personal and friendly service that buyers and sellers know each other on a first name basis. It seems like there is always a great story behind the items being bought and sold on OLA. The sale of the Marla Gassner Jewelry Collection is no different.
Roxanne, the seller of this unique collection of completely one-of-a-kind necklaces, not only has a story to share but now she's sharing some of her cherished Marla Gassner pieces with the next generation of unique jewelry lovers.
Artist Marla Gassner was initially introduced as a child to the things that would become the creative starting point for her exotic necklaces...vintage costume jewelry and buttons shared with her by her aunt and grandmother. Later on, Marla would spend hours collecting shards of antique China, old coins, ivory charms, cloisonné pieces, good luck Buddhas, and interesting vintage beads. Eventually she opened a shop called 1000 Delights where she created and sold her necklaces and other art pieces to casual wearers and collectors alike. Each necklace, when sold, was always accompanied by a personal descriptive note in Marla's own handwriting describing the individual pieces that made up the whole. Roxanne, a seller on OLA, is one of those collectors who treasures the thoughtful, handmade necklaces.
Roxanne has a story of her own that relates to Marla Gassner. In the early 1980's when returning from a trip, Roxanne's husband surprised her at the airport with a large stuffed teddy bear adorned with an original Marla Gassner piece that he had purchased at a home-based holiday bazaar in the suburbs. Roxanne was immediately smitten by the piece and wanted to meet its creator. Roxanne's husband laughs and says that introducing Marla and Roxanne was a “mistake” that would cost him a lot of money. He was right.
Marla and Roxanne became fast friends and Roxanne went on to collect a number of Marla's necklaces. The two friends would even travel to New York together to go on treasure hunts spending hours in mysterious places sitting on concrete floors while looking through endless boxes of charms, beads, buttons, and trinkets. These items would eventually become part of a larger work of Marla's wearable art that was inspired by her love of color and texture. Each piece is truly unique as Marla doesn't copy or reproduce any of her pieces regardless of popularity. Wearing a Marla Gassner strand evokes memories of times past and the whimsical possibilities of the history of each bead, trinket and charm that makes up the whole.
Fast forward many years...Marla and Roxanne are still friends although they have not seen each other in years. Marla is still creating art in many forms. Roxanne still has all of her Marla Gassner “Originals”, each still with Marla's handwritten notes, but she is ready to share some of her collection with other people who cherish the intrinsic value of something that is truly one-of-a-kind. And what better way to do that than to utilize the personal storefront of OnlineAuction.com where Roxanne can develop relationships with her buyers just as Marla did all those years ago. OnlineAuction.com is the internet auction site where buyers and sellers call each other friends.
