Martin Pierce's Custom Door Handles Shown in New Video Release
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 09, 2016 -- Martin Pierce Hardware has now brought out their first comprehensive but succinct video showing their range of creative and unique door handles. The first video appropriately named Luxury Door Handles and lasting a brief 2 minutes starts with detailed rotating views of the Hedgerow style patio door handle. This bronze piece was filmed in Los Angeles which is where Martin Pierce both designs and casts his unique door handles and cabinet pulls.
When interviewed and asked why the move into this visual medium, Pierce answered, “The big advantage to showing our custom hardware in this format is you get to see and understand what we mean by functional art.” Indeed, when you look at the video and Pierce’s bronze lizard sculpture you can see clearly how the body of the lizard acts a large door pull that is gripped to open the front gate to this private residence. Above the lizard there is a sculpted bronze back-plate reminiscent of stone, on which a butterfly is perched. The butterfly is another example of what Pierce means by functional art as the butterfly when depressed works as a thumb latch that releases the mortise lock. The video continues to the inside view of the gate where an Anole styled lizard decorated with a vibrant green patina is used as a door lever. To continue the nature theme, the lizard lever is mounted on a bark-like back plate and above it a small bronze beetle is used to add a whimsical touch for the turn piece that functions to open the deadbolt .The large lizard grip and the smaller lizard lever are directional with Pierce creating lefts and rights for both so they will work perfectly as statement pieces on double doors.
As this was a local residence not far from Pierce’s workshop near Culver City, Los Angeles, he had the opportunity of working with the home owner to make custom gate grills in the form of entwined flax stems, each decorated with a very small bronze frog.
It is clear from the video that Pierce’s art is not limited by style or genre or medium. His functional art is decidedly eclectic and moves from nature inspired themes to fluid contemporary designs as seen in his Ergo and Morphic collections. For his contemporary works Pierce prefers to cast these door hardware pieces in 304 stainless steel. By casting these in steel, Pierce is able to create a sophisticated look which uses high polished facets with softer brushed areas that add a sense of movement and depth to these works and that is beautifully shown in his Ergo Epic Door Pull.
