Maryland's Premier Professional Mixed Martial Arts Event Returns to Royal Farms Arena
BALTIMORE (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 -- Baltimore-based professional mixed martial arts (MMA) organization Shogun Fights will host Shogun Fights XI on Nov. 15 at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. Shogun Fights is partnering with title sponsor Atlantic Remodeling and Best Western Baltimore to benefit Epic Church’s third annual Be Warm Baltimore coat drive.
Epic Church volunteers will be collecting new and gently worn coats as patrons enter Shogun Fights XI from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Arena’s main lobby entrance on Hopkins Place. Those who donate a coat will receive a $25 discount coupon for select seats at Shogun Fights XII to be held in spring 2015. All coats collected during the Be Warm Baltimore coat drive will go directly to a homeless person or individual in need. Coats will be collected at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Baltimore until Nov. 21 and distributed to those in need on Nov. 22.

But it’s also a time to think of others who may not be so fortunate and do what we can to help our fellow man,” said President and CEO of Atlantic Remodeling Bert Lebhar, title sponsor of Shogun Fights and the third annual Be Warm Baltimore coat drive. “We are honored and privileged to be involved with Epic Church and Be Warm Baltimore, and are happy to help our community in any way we can. Shogun Fights XI’s fight card includes 12 matches featuring regional MMA favorites, including James “Binky” Jones and Rob Sullivan of Baltimore; Tacuma Robinson of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Micah Terrill of Crofton, Maryland; and Spencer Strube of Frederick, Maryland. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. for VIP guests to enjoy an open bar, dinner catered by Valentino’s Restaurant, and prime ringside seating during the fights; and 6:00 p.m. for general admission. The fights begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at midnight.
MEDIA NOTE: 44-year-old James “Binky” Jones is an educational assistant at an alternative school by day, and professional MMA fighter by night. A husband and father of two, Jones has balanced family life, a career in education, and an MMA career for 14 years. In addition to his own two-a-day training sessions, Jones volunteers his evenings to instructing the Kid’s Class at Ground Control Academies, which teaches MMA to nearly 40 children between the ages of 4 and 13. Jones heads into his Nov. 15 matchup against Neil Johnson with his son, 14, and daughter, 18, supporting him as his biggest fans. Jones is available for media interview upon request.

Shogun Fights’ biannual promotion attracts 3,000 to 5,000 spectators each event. The combination of wrestling, boxing, muay thai, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, and other forms of martial arts, MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, according to Rallo. Its rising popularity in the mid-Atlantic region can be largely attributed to the advocacy efforts of Rallo, who played an integral role in the sport’s legalization in the state of Maryland in 2008.
