New York, NY (PRWEB) July 16, 2015 -- Mashable, the leading media company for the digital generation, has hired Juana Summers as its first Politics Editor to direct day-to-day political coverage and reporting on the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Mashable will cover politics in a fresh, unexpected way without the political jargon written solely for the D.C. crowd.
What Mashable audiences will see are stories about topics that matter most to them: race, gender, equality, immigration, climate, Internet freedom and privacy. The coverage will be meaningful, accessible and engaging and will be delivered with the voter’s perspective in mind.
Mashable Politics will be serious but not alienating, and will know when it's time to step back and examine the spectacle of the presidential election.
“I’ve been involved in campaign coverage for 20 years, and I have seen how easy it is for that coverage to be dulled by monotony,” said Jim Roberts, Executive Editor and Chief Content Officer. “At Mashable, I want us to cover the campaign in ways that will constantly surprise people. I want us to tell the stories other outlets may overlook, and I want to present them in a way that I haven’t been able to do before.”

Prior to joining Mashable, Summers was a congressional reporter for NPR News. Before joining NPR in May 2014, she spent nearly four years at POLITICO, where she covered the Republican field and general election. She also covered defense policy and veteran affairs on Capitol Hill for POLITICO Pro. In addition, she has served as contributing writer for DCist.com and guest host on C-SPAN’s flagship public affairs program, “Washington Journal.”
Summers will now bring her knowledge of Washington to Mashable, where she will have the freedom to experiment with new storytelling methods. Mashable audiences shouldn’t be surprised if they see her Periscoping from the campaign trail or interviewing a candidate on Snapchat.

Summers is a Missouri native and graduate of University of Missouri-Columbia, where she studied journalism. Prior to moving to the East Coast, Summers covered state and local politics for the Kansas City Star and St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
