Massive Water Slide Shatters Guinness World Record In Ft. Worth
DALLAS, TX (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- June 18, 2015 – Thousands of Texans splashed down 1,777 feet of slick vinyl to achieve a new Guinness World Record. Despite delays in morning due to a mechanical malfunction, Slide the City™ was able to achieve the world record for “Longest Distance Slid on a Slip ‘n Slide” during the evening of Saturday June 12.
“We are excited to have Fort Worth as the epicenter of our new world record,” said Slide the City™ event director Emerson Hamilton. “What better place to make history than at PantherFest? The atmosphere was incredible and we had a great turnout!”
After overcoming equipment failures, which lead to delays and ultimately the cancellation of the first wave, evening sliders achieved a new Guinness World Record. PanterFest and the City of Fort Worth can now claim the “Longest Distance Slid on a Slip ‘n Slide” after thrill seekers sped down a colossal 2.5 million feet one hour! Slide the City™ smashed the previous record of 129,855 ft. set by a group in Memphis, TN in 2014.
Even though the record was broken and sliders had an amazing time during the evening, regret still lingered with the event producers. “We are heartbroken that faulty rental equipment led to cancellation of the Afternoon wave,” said Hamilton. “We can only imagine how disappointing it would be to see the slide set-up without being able to speed down.”
North Main Street was transformed into a water-lover’s oasis as participants rode inflatables down a giant slide while enjoying music provided by live bands. As the heat increased, slides were more frequent and refreshments an absolute necessity. Assorted food offerings were provided by vendors and as drinks flowed from local beer brewers. The evening ended with a spectacular fireworks show provided by PantherFest. In all, participants enjoyed a water-and-fun-filled day in Cowtown.
