Mayakoba Launched Inaugural Playa Fest and Celebrated Fairmont Mayakoba's 10-Year Anniversary
Playa del Carmen, Mexico (PRWEB) September 09, 2016 -- Playa del Carmen, Mexico – From September 1-4 Mayakoba Resort, located on one of the most exclusive beaches in Mexico, had its inaugural Mayakoba Playa Fest 2016. The resort had more than 250 participants enjoy the beautiful beach setting of turquoise waters and powder white sands with athletic events and gourmet culinary experiences in celebration of Fairmont Mayakoba’s 10-year anniversary.
Activities featured throughout the fest included stand up paddle clinics and races, yoga, beach volleyball, and a sand sculpture contest for the children. Avid athletes participated in the Mayakoba Playa Fest Challenge, a competitive event with yoga, a 5k running race and 1k stand up paddle board race.
The four days under the Caribbean sun were complemented with exceptional cuisine from special guest chefs Kori Sutton, participant of the TV show, ´Top Chef Mexico´ and BRAVO´s ´Cutthroat Kitchen;´ Diane Dimeo, who has gained international fame as a contestant and winner of numerous culinary shows such as ´Chopped’ and ´The Taste,´ and is currently the curator of El Pueblito´s Cooking School; Chef Jesus Gibaja, known as the "el chefcito," host of Unicable´s ´La Cocina de Gibaja;´and Eric de Maeyer, executive chef of Fairmont Mayakoba. Jessica Cichra, yoga teacher, and creator of Bala Tula, offered daily yoga lessons and Nicolas Melani, founder of SurfMex, and Coco Nogales, a recognized Mexican surfer, taught tips and tricks for surfing and SUP.

Highlights of the Playa Fest experience included:
Welcome Cocktail – A beach party under the stars accompanied by lively music, where guest chefs prepared haute cuisine and special hors d’oeuvres paired with craft beer, mezcal and cocktails by Tequila Patron’s mixologists.
Beach Yoga – Morning Bala Tula class taught by Jessica Cichra that incorporated stand up paddle board and yoga.
Mangrove Sustainability Workshop – An expedition through Mayakoba’s mangroves and educational experience on the local flora and fauna.
Stand Up Paddle Lessons – Nicolás Melani, famous surfer and founder of SurfMex shared the tricks of the sport in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Riviera Maya.
Beach Volleyball – Teams of four competed on the beach of Fairmont Mayakoba.
Sand Sculpture Contest – Children 12 and under created their own marine life conservation-inspired sand sculptures with activity specialist Mauricio Regis.
Awards Ceremony and Lunch – Chef Kori Sutton prepared an exquisite surf n´ turf menu paired with craft beer from Cerveza Bocanegra and margaritas by Tequila Patron served seaside with live music.
Mayakoba Playa Fest Challenge – Festival participants entered in an event which included the following activities:
- Yoga at Sunrise – A private yoga session taught by Jessica Cichra in a peaceful ocean front studio
- 5K Race – The second phase of the event was a race staring at the beach, continuing through the cart path of the El Camaleón golf course to the finish line at the beach.
- 1K SUP – The challenge ended with a stand up paddle race where participants competed with the biggest SUP athletes.
Dinner by Chef Jesus Gibaja – Gourmet Mexican cuisine created by renowned chef Jesus Gibaja in Fairmont’s Las Brisas.
Closing Ceremony at El Pueblito – Guests danced the night away and dined on delights from the special guest chefs, highlighting the destination´s gastronomy.
