Mayor Deandre Windom Presents Students with Kenedi Treasure’s Mindless Behavior and Jacob Latimore Tickets Plus Thanksgiving Dinner
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- Thanks to Kenedi Treasure and Mayor Deandre Windom, a few lucky Highland Park students have earned their family a Thanksgiving feast plus coveted tickets to see superstar boy band Mindless Behavior, Black Nativity star Jacob Latimore and YMCMB’s Torion Sellers. Highland Park Mayor Deandre Windom recently collaborated with Kenedi and Treasure Bishop, the Michigan-born sisters known for their Kenedi Treasure teen celebrity parties, cosmetics, accessories and hair products in Atlanta. Together, they sought to reward the brightest young minds by asking them to write an essay on what they would do if they were Mayor of Highland Park, complete with the reason they love the city and some interesting facts about the area.
The youngest winners were third graders Makenzie Garner-Maton and Ramiyah Simone Davis, aged eight and nine, respectively. 10 year-old grade five students Madison Johnson and Dakayla Cook along with 11 year-old grade six student Kayla Young also won top honors. The oldest winner was Akeyha Danzy, a 12 year-old seventh grader.
“We had some very thoughtful essays submitted and that made the judging very difficult,” said 16 year-old Kenedi Bishop. “Coming from this city, I understood where they were coming from and it makes me feel really good to know that kids do have a passion for our community and want to make a difference. If they follow what they wrote, I know this city has a bright future.”
Her sister Treasure, who was recently awarded a Proclamation from the City of Atlanta, expressed how blessed they were that K.I.T.E (Konnecting the Incarcerated Through Excellence) was able the meals to provide meals that can each feed a family of about eight.
“We are excited to come back and have so many of our family, friends and whole city support us,” said 18 year-old Treasure Bishop. “It’s a great feeling to see that our efforts are being recognized. Most importantly, it’s a reminder from our dad to ensure we never forget who we are and where we came from.”
The quartet known as Mindless burst onto the music scene back in 2008 with hits such as My Girl and have sealed their spot as the ‘it’ R&B boy band of their generation. Touring with the likes of the Backstreet Boys and Justin Bieber plus being sole opening act for Janet Jackson's 2011 tour further confirms the young hitmakers’ place in music, further recognized when they won the BET Awards Coca Cola's Viewer's Choice Award.
Meanwhile, Latimore has several hits under his belt but has made a successful transition into acting. Previews for his upcoming film Black Nativity already has critics hailing him as a true crossover talent playing alongside Hollywood heavyweights Jenifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Forrest Whittaker, Mary J.Blige, Tyrese Gibson and Nasir Jones.
