MC Assembly Helps Habitat for Humanity Give Melbourne Single Mother a New Home
(PRWEB) December 07, 2016 -- MC Assembly, a leader in electronics manufacturing services, participated in a Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County home building project to help give a single mother and her four young boys a home. Volunteers from MC Assembly spent Dec. 3 painting the interior of the home, installing siding on the exterior and cleaning up the grounds.
The home, built for Guerline “Summer” Binot and her four young boys, is a 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom house. For Binot, who was there on Saturday, this was a long personal struggle for her to complete the Habitat for Humanity program while working and raising four young boys.
“It means everything to me to have a place to call home and make it our own,” Binot said.
This project was selected by MC Assembly’s newly formed “My Community Team” and is the second community outreach initiative they’ve selected in the Melbourne area, home to MC Assembly’s headquarters. Earlier this year, the team participated in a Back to School Drive to help pass out backpacks to students and provide school supplies for teachers.
“As a company, it’s important to us that we’re making an impact in the community,” said Brian Kingston, director of Human Resources at MC Assembly. “After all, in addition to working in Melbourne, many of us live here, too. Being able to give back to the community is important to us.
Kingston said the MC Assembly volunteers were able to apply one coat of paint on all interior walls as well as hang approximately 70 percent of the siding on the home. The ground crew was able to clean up two additional job sites for future Habitat homes.
Kingston said that in addition to being a great team building project outside of their traditional work setting, the project took on a more important value after they met Binot, who goes by the nickname “Summer”.
“It was great to see how this home was going to make a huge impact for her and her family,” Kingston said. “Summer is a great person and we’re very happy we could help her and her family.”
Pam Davis, director of Development and Marketing for Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, said the organization was thankful that MC Assembly participated in bringing Binot’s dream to life.
