mCube and Haier Establish Joint Lab to develop Sensor Module Solutions for Smart Home Appliances
QINGDAO, China, June 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- mCube, provider of the world's smallest and lowest power MEMS motion sensors together with Haier Group announced establishment of a joint lab for developing intelligent sensor solutions. The two enterprises will co-develop intelligent sensor solutions for the global home appliance market, with the aim to bring next generation smart home appliances and smart life experiences to consumers.
Developing intelligent sensor products requires combining expertise in sensing, algorithms and system level implementation. Sensors are like the neural nodes of a product and a processor running algorithms is like the brain. As one of few companies with the capability of making both smart sensors and end products using sensors, mCube is collaborating with the world's leading home appliance supplier, Haier, to bring true intelligence to home appliances.
In this collaboration, mCube will provide Haier with total sensor solutions, including sensor components, software and hardware designs, and algorithm development, so Haier can complete the whole development process from feasibility study to mass production.
Ben Lee, CEO of mCube, said, "we are honored to partner with the biggest player in home appliance market in the world. Haier has been focusing on this market for many years, with deep insights of the market needs. Together, we will develop new intelligent sensor modules and total solutions for smart home appliances to address needs of sensor solutions in the future. We believe our collaboration with Haier will drive growth of global smart home appliance market, and help more consumers to learn the convenience that these appliances can bring to their lives."
Dr. Guoxin Yu, Chief Engineer of Haier Innovation Center, said, "the major difficulties in home appliance lie in sensors. We are very glad to build this joint lab for intelligent sensor solutions with mCube which helps us to solve the technical problems in this field quickly and efficiently. It can also enable us to define and develop sensors by combining the latest needs and sensor technologies of smart home appliances. It will be a pioneering move for driving the development of this industry as well as the wider application of sensor technologies in home appliances."
According to Dr. Yu, sensors were mainly applied in industrial areas due to their high precision, high cost and demand for professional maintenance. However, home appliance intelligentization is a trend that started just a few years ago. Sensors used in home appliances need to be low cost and highly reliable over many years, i.e. 10 years, without maintenance. Such requirements cannot be met with our current sensor technologies. Therefore, Haier and mCube decided to build this joint lab and hope to find solutions that truly meet the needs of this market.
