MEA’s Spring 2015 Leadership Boot Camp
Eagan, MN (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- MEA congratulates the fourteen leaders from utilities such as Consumers Energy, Montana-Dakota-Utilities, NiSource, and Xcel Energy who completed MEA’s third Leadership Boot Camp this May, 2015. Half of the participants were in individual contributor roles and the other half managed staff from three to as many as nineteen in departments as diverse as engineering, operations, customer field solutions, HR and compliance.
From early March to late May, Boot Campers used assessments from Gallup’s Strengths Based Leadership and Talent Smart’s Emotional Intelligence 2.0 to identify their top leadership strengths, attended four private webinars with professional coaches, receive feedback from their managers and developed career plan.
New for the spring 2015 session was webinar speaker Sarah Sheila Birnbach, President of Birnbach Success Solutions. She shared content on Social Styles using People Styles at Work by Robert Bolton and Dorothy Grover Bolton. The goals for Sarah’s webinar included: assisting boot campers in understanding their behavior preferences and how they are perceived by others, how to identify social styles of others using observable behavior and how to interact more effectively with those whose behavior preferences are different.
At the conclusion of the program, nine of the fourteen Boot Campers provided feedback on the program via an online survey. One strength mentioned was, “The webinars gave us the ability to take information we have gained through the assessments and helped instill ideas and practical applications into ones work and personal lives. The feedback from participating managers is extremely valuable too, with their day to day interaction with us as an individual and ways they see we can grow.”
Another boot camper commented, “Each module of the boot camp built on the previous module(s). This made it easier to see how each piece fit into the ‘big picture.’” Areas for improvement mentioned in the evaluations include more time for each webinar session, and ideas for encouraging more participant interaction during the live webinars.
All of the feedback from this spring will be used to improve on the next Leadership Boot Camp that is starting this September, 2015. Registration is currently open for the next cohort of 15 – 20 leaders interested in identifying and improving their leadership skills. Register today at http://www.midwestenergy.org / events tab in September.
