MedCline™ Further Proven to Reduce Nocturnal Acid Reflux and Provide Quality of Life Improvements in Patients Unresponsive to GERD Medications
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 08, 2015 -- The latest MedCline™ clinical trial results were presented by Cleveland Clinic at the world’s largest gathering of physicians and researchers in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery, Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2015.
The results, “Use of a Sleep Positioning Device Significantly Improves Nocturnal Gastroesophageal Reflux,” further prove the effectiveness of MedCline™ as a treatment for nocturnal GERD. The study strengthens previous findings showing that the use of MedCline™ significantly reduces nocturnal reflux symptoms and provides health-related quality of life improvements for patients who continue to suffer with nighttime symptoms, including heartburn and regurgitation, despite daily PPI usage. These patients, also known as refractory GERD patients, represent 20-30% of the GERD population and present a challenge for the medical community because traditional treatment methods remain ineffective.
This latest study utilized two validated questionnaires: (1) Nocturnal GERD Symptom Severity and Impact Questionnaire (N-GSSIQ) and (2) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease-Health Related Quality of Life (GERD-HRQL). Both questionnaires were completed by patients upon enrollment and then again after using MedCline™ nightly for a two-week period.
The results showed a significant reduction in scores across all measures using Medcline™:
- 72% reduction in nocturnal GERD symptoms
- 65% reduction in morning impact of GERD
- 62% reduction in concerns about nocturnal GERD
With a 68% reduction in overall N-GSSIQ scores and 44% reduction in GERD-HRQL scores, this study validates MedCline™ as an effective, at-home nocturnal acid reflux treatment, which provides much needed nighttime relief for refractory GERD patients.
Another significant finding was that 91% of patients continued to use MedCline™ three months after the completion of the study, showing effectiveness and high patient compliance rates.
Finally, the lead researcher, Scott Gabbard, MD, of the Digestive Disease Institute, noted “Not only did nighttime symptoms improve [for patients], but daytime symptoms improved, as well.”
