Medical Center of Marin Sponsors a Community Outreach Project "Unify" on January 11, 2014 Featuring Affordable Care Act Sign Up Provided by Marin County DHHS
Corte Madera, California (PRWEB) December 30, 2013 -- Medical Center of Marin is sponsoring a community outreach event at the Whistlestop Active Aging Center in San Rafael on January 11, 2014. The County of Marin joins in their effort and will be providing Certified Enrollment Counselors to sign families up for The Affordable Care Act.
For this one-day event, Whistlestop Active Aging Center at 930 Tamalpais Avenue in San Rafael will be transformed into a service center for the needy and working poor families of Marin from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The outreach project began December 1st as a One Warm Coat drive, which has been taking place at select Whole Foods markets in Marin, and will continue through January 5th. During the event on January 11th, MCoM will be giving away a limited but generous number of free flu shots along with the coats.
In an attempt to make a long-term impact on the community, an a la carte offering of social services will also be provided. MCoM has organized for the participation of the following local agencies: Marin Health and Human Services, Homeward Bound, Home for All Marin, Kids Cooking for Life, Community Action Marin, Marin Employment Connection, Marin Housing, Center for Domestic Peace, Trips for Kids, Marin Transit, Marin County Family Literacy Flagship, Marin Food Banks and Parent Services Project. MCoM managing partner Warren L. Cipa, D.C. comments, "We wanted to do more than just put a band aid on an ongoing social situation. Our goal is to offer a wide range of services that provide continuous assistance to these families, so that they can grow and overcome their current set of circumstances."
Along with a variety of sign-up opportunities, Affordable Care Act sign up taking center stage, there will also be opportunities for under-privileged youth, and representatives from numerous agencies providing information and materials on their assistance programs. Unify will bounce with live demonstrations and presentations by youth-driven organizations, intended to entertain, engage and motivate the children attending with their parents on the day of the event.
