New York, NY (PRWEB) November 24, 2013 -- Marcelo Lancman, M.D., offers his knowledge as an epilepsy expert in “Qué Necesitas Saber si la Epilepsia Ha Tocado Tu Vida” (ISBN-10: 1490461329). Realizing the need for education for Spanish-speaking persons living with epilepsy as well as their family members, friends and caregivers, Lancman’s work acts as a guide and resource for this common and so often misunderstood brain disorder.
The decision to write this book in Spanish came after receiving many requests from patients and relatives for a Spanish version of What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life. Lancman and co-authors realized that the Hispanic population was in great need of reliable and current information about epilepsy that might counter prevalent myths and prejudices about epilepsy. “Qué Necesitas Saber si la Epilepsia Ha Tocado Tu Vida” (What you need to know if epilepsy has touched your life) offers up-to-date and relevant medical information on a variety of topics ranging from diagnosis to treatment of epilepsy. As the medical director of the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group, Lancman and his team have developed a patient-centered approach to life with epilepsy that aims to help individuals achieve the best possible quality of life.
This guide to life with epilepsy starts with the basics, building up the readers’ knowledge of epilepsy and the variety of diagnostic tools used today. Dr. Lancman says his ultimate goal with this book is turning Spanish-speaking readers into truly informed consumers when it comes to epilepsy diagnostic and treatment methods. “Qué Necesitas Saber si la Epilepsia Ha Tocado Tu Vida” (What you need to know if epilepsy has touched your life) offers step-by-step instructions for preparing for doctors’ visits as well as an examination of living with epilepsy and being a parent, having a job and living a normal life. It also includes an index of useful North, South and Central American epilepsy resources for Spanish-speakers.
“The inspiration for my work came from the patients I work with day in and day out,” says Dr. Lancman. “My Hispanic patients struggle with not finding the necessary Spanish language information on line or in print that would help them understand epilepsy better. I am myself of Hispanic origin and felt I could help by providing a guide to epilepsy in Spanish to such a large population in need.”
“Qué Necesitas Saber si la Epilepsia Ha Tocado Tu Vida” (What you need to know if epilepsy has touched your life) is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels. Online earnings are donated to the Epilepsy Free Foundation to support college and summer camp scholarships for persons with epilepsy.
